The Meaning of Interpreting

Soft Skills for Interpreters

The Meaning of Interpreting

This 3-5-hour workshop teaches

interpreters how meaning is

constructed in conversation and

how differences in cognitive

schema across languages

complicate the interpreting task.

Participants look at the semantics and pragmatics of ASL and English to

see where there are similarities and differences. Techniques for bridging

the linguistic gaps are discussed and applied in group work. This hands-on

workshop prepares the interpreter to seriously look at meaning-making

through lecture, discussion, practice and with the help of a few brilliant

observations by the characters of Seinfeld and When Harry Met Sally.

Branding for Interpreters

Soft Skills for Interpreters

The Meaning of Interpreting

This hands-on workshop gets

interpreters ready to ‘market’

themselves with tools to make a

professional interpreting resume and

LinkedIn page that help them get

attention from hiring managers.

Soft Skills for Interpreters

Interpreting for People with Atypical Cognition

This three-hour workshop focuses

on the skills out of the ‘hot seat’

that make an interpreter a success.

Learn how to effectively deal with

conflicts, express appreciation in a

way that can be heard, and

generally how to get along better with colleagues, consumers, bosses and significant others.

Interpreting for People with Atypical Cognition

Interpreting for People with Atypical Cognition

Interpreting for People with Atypical Cognition

Interpreting for Deaf people who have atypical cognition, such as

Intellectual Disabilities, is a unique challenge. While this population of

signers has grown dramatically, there has been little information

available on how interpreters can successfully navigate these complex

interpreting situations. This three to six-hour workshop relies heavily

on real clips of complex narratives by Deaf people with Intellectual

Disabilities and group work to provide participants with successful

experiences parsing meaning and developing interpreting tools.

AI for Interpreters

Interpreting for People with Atypical Cognition

Leading Interpreters

The sign language interpreting profession is poised for its most major disruption since the ADA was passed in 1990. What does the future

hold for interpreting as a career? What even is all this AI stuff? How can interpreters leverage the power of AI to improve upon their practice

(pre, during and post interpreting)? This workshop will tackle all of

these topics in a hands-on format with interpreters leaving the session

with useful tools in their back pocket.

Leading Interpreters

Interpreting for People with Atypical Cognition

Leading Interpreters

Leading interpreters is a unique and difficult task. This training can be

customized to focus on how to coach volunteers towards performance

and set your organization on a successful path or it can focus on the

development of the leader through self-reflective practice. In this three-

hour workshop, current research on organizational leadership sets the

stage for engaging discussions among participants.
